What is HVC KYOTO?

HVC KYOTO (Healthcare Venture Conference KYOTO) is an innovation platform that brings together startups with cutting-edge technologies in the healthcare sector from Japan and abroad, and "HVC Partners" including global corporations engaged in open innovation, venture capital firms, and incubators. HVC KYOTO provides selected startups--primarily in the pre-seed to early stages--with opportunities to connect and collaborate with partners to accelerate their growth. At Demo Day, one of the largest all-English startup pitch events in Japan focused on healthcare, startups pitch their business to a global audience and engage in matching opportunities with potential partners for business alliances, joint research, or investment.

Over the past nine years, 174 startups (including pre-incorporation projects) have been selected. As of March 2025, the total disclosed fundraising amount by selected Japanese startups has exceeded 76.5 billion yen. Many past participants have gone on to achieve major milestones such as establishing overseas offices, forming large-scale partnerships, earning J-Startup certification, and being selected for AMED-funded projects. HVC KYOTO is now recognized as a gateway to success for healthcare startups and researchers.

In February 2025, HVC KYOTO received the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award at the 7th Japan Open Innovation Prize hosted by the Cabinet Office, recognizing it as a role model for open innovation platforms. Additionally, in March 2023, HVC received the Encouragement Award in the Ecosystem Category at the IP BASE AWARD organized by the Japan Patent Office. In September of the same year, it was ranked third globally in the IASP Inspiration Solution Programme organized by the International Association of Science Parks (IASP), earning further recognition both in Japan and internationally as a leading innovation platform.
